WE TRAVEL FAR AND WIDE

We typically travel up to 3.5 hours by car from the Melbourne CBD for performances.

We can accommodate further distances if required, but please note that our fee will increase to cover additional travel expenses.

Our Melbourne string quartet has travelled as far as Mount Gambier for a wedding performance.

ALL FUNCTION TYPES

A string quartet elevates any occasion, enhancing the ambiance as guests arrive.

The sophisticated touch of a quartet leaves a lasting impression, making every event unforgettable.

Explore the diverse range of functions we’ve performed at, including weddings, funerals and celebrations, showcasing the unique appeal of our musical talents.

LISTEN TO OVER 200 RECORDINGS

We proudly provide an expansive collection of over 3,000 songs, featuring popular contemporary hits from the 1950s to the present day, as well as enduring compositions from the Baroque, Classical, and Romantic eras.

Moreover, our repertoire comprises tangos, hymns, folk melodies, jazz compositions, and celebratory carols.

With our diverse musical selections, we cater to all preferences and occasions!

Feel free to listen to over 200 of our sample recordings right here on our website. If you don’t have time to listen to all our string quartet recordings, we have also created shorter playlists of the most requested songs by our valued clients. The great thing about our playlists, is that you can click on the top song, and they will play sequentially without you having to click each individual track. They will also play in the background, so you can complete other important tasks, and when you hear the songs you like, simply take note of the track numbers. We’d love to perform these songs for you and your guests as well.

Picky about our recordings? Fun fact. All of our sample recordings were completed with just one take and without any edits.

SPECIAL SONG REQUESTS

If your favourite song isn’t in our 3000+ library of songs, we’re more than happy to arrange it for you at no additional cost.

In fact, we’ll accommodate up to three special requests at no extra charge, guaranteeing your cherished songs are performed live exclusively for you on your wedding day, your loved-one’s funeral or other important event.

For additional song arrangements, we charge a fee of $200 + GST per song.

CUSTOM-TAILORED BAND

At String Musicians Australia, our primary ensemble is the string quartet, but we also offer various configurations to suit our clients’ budgets, including string trios, string duos, and solo performances.

A string quartet, consisting of two violinists, a violist, and a cellist, provides the richest harmonies and fullest sound, making it our top recommendation.

A string trio comprises two violinists and a cellist, while a string duo features a violinist and cellist. Solo performances can be by a violinist, violist, or cellist, depending on the client’s preference. Please note that solo performers can only play the melody line, without harmony.

For those with an unlimited budget, we have performed as large orchestras consisting of up to forty musicians.

Ultimately, we can accommodate any request, tailoring our ensemble to your preferences and budget.

RECORDING SESSIONS, FEATURE FILMS AND COMPOSITIONS

Not only do our talented Melbourne performers bring their exceptional skills to live events, but they also lend their expertise to recording sessions for commercial television, feature films, and student compositions.

Their patience, experience and versatility make them the ideal choice for any occasion.

Listen to over 200 sample recordings.

LOW-LIGHT SETTINGS

Since we read our music on our iPads, we can perform in dark and low-light settings.

we don't REQUIRE POWER

We perform on acoustic instruments, which means we don’t require access to any power.

This makes our set up time efficient and keeps our performance area simple and safe.

WE PERFORM ACOUSTICALLY

For smaller gatherings with fewer than 80 attendees or functions where guests will engage in quiet conversations, we recommend having us perform acoustically. This is well-suited for wedding ceremonies, small receptions, funerals, and wakes.

If you prefer an acoustic performance for a large event, we suggest booking our string quartet only for the first 60-90 minutes of your event.

During this period, our string quartet will create the most significant impact, and your guests will be most likely to appreciate their performance.

Typically, after this timeframe, guests become more at ease with socialising, their conversations grow louder, and the string quartet becomes less noticeable. We advise playing music over speakers once the string quartet concludes their performance.

WE CAN BE AMPLIFIED

For large wedding receptions, celebrations and corporate events hosting more than 80 attendees, expansive outdoor settings, or crowded spaces, we suggest amplifying our string quartet to achieve the best sound quality.

If your venue provides sound equipment to amplify the string quartet, please arrange for the sound engineer to place one microphone on a stand in front of each musician.

To guarantee optimal audio, please hire our string quartet for an extra 30 minutes prior to their performance time for a soundcheck.

WIRELESS AMPLIFICATION OPTION

We offer a state-of-the-arts wireless amplification system to ensure all guests can appreciate our music.

With a wireless system, there’s no need to concern yourself with electrical safety tag checks or guests tripping over cables and wires.

We can fine-tune the balance and volume, delivering a performance that is perfectly audible without overwhelming the space.

We can also arrange ambient background music to be played over the speakers, filling the silence during our breaks (if applicable).

The additional cost for this service is $650, and we’ll need to arrive at least one hour before the booking time to set up.

If you’re interested in this service, please let us know when making your enquiry or when filling out our booking form.

WE PERFORM OUTDOORS

We are happy to perform outdoors; however, our highly valuable instruments require protection from direct sunlight, rain, and wind.

Suitable outdoor settings include verandas, balconies, and decks with overhead cover, marquees, large shade umbrellas, or spacious trees providing ample shade without falling foliage risks.

Performing on or near sand is not feasible due to potential instrument damage.

In the event of inclement weather, please ensure an indoor backup performance area is available.
