HOBART’S MOST EXPERIENCED WEDDING STRING QUARTET MUSICIANS

We’ve performed at weddings across Hobart and Tasmania, from waterfront ceremonies at The Henry Jones Art Hotel and Peppermint Bay to garden weddings at the Royal Tasmanian Botanical Gardens and vineyard receptions at Frogmore Creek and Glen Albyn Estate. That experience means we understand the acoustics and logistics of the region’s most popular venues.

On the day, we arrive 20 minutes early, set up quietly, and begin playing as your guests are seated. We coordinate the processional, signing of the register and recessional with your celebrant or MC so every musical cue lands on time.

Most couples book us for the ceremony and pre-dinner drinks (1.5 to 2 hours). During this window the quartet makes the biggest impact and your guests are most attentive.

ON The Day

No power needed. We play acoustic instruments and read music on iPads, so we perform comfortably in low-light and evening settings with zero setup requirements.

For gatherings under 80 guests, we recommend acoustic performance, which suits wedding ceremonies, small receptions, funerals and wakes. For larger events or outdoor settings, we recommend amplification. If your venue provides PA equipment, please arrange one microphone per musician and allow an extra 30 minutes for a soundcheck.

We perform outdoors provided our instruments have overhead cover from sun, rain and wind. Full details in our terms of service.

FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS

Our Musicians

Q1: Who are the musicians performing at my Hobart event?
Our musicians are proud to perform with Hobart’s eminent orchestra, the Tasmanian Symphony Orchestra (TSO), a jewel in the cultural landscape of Tasmania with a rich history spanning over seven decades. Beyond their orchestral commitments, they also perform in smaller ensembles including string quartets, string trios, string duos, and as individual solo performers throughout Tasmania. They have also garnered many esteemed awards and honours, including the Musica Viva Grand Prize, the Kendall National Violin Competition, and the Banff International String Quartet Competition.

Q2: Can I watch the musicians perform live before committing to a booking?
Absolutely. Our musicians take to the stage almost every week of the year with the Tasmanian Symphony Orchestra. Alternatively, you can watch the TSO perform via their live stream service from the comfort of your own home, making it the most flexible and transparent audition process we can offer.

Q3: How much local experience does the quartet have?
Having performed at many weddings in Hobart and throughout Tasmania, our musicians bring a wealth of expertise and professionalism to every occasion. From the gentle melodies played as guests arrive, to the graceful harmonies during the processional, and the joyous notes of the recessional, our quartet adds an element of elegance and sophistication that elevates the atmosphere of your event.

Venues and Locations

Q4: Which Hobart venues has the quartet performed at?
Our quartet has performed at many of Hobart’s most iconic wedding and reception venues, including The Henry Jones Art Hotel, Mona (Museum of Old and New Art), Hadley’s Orient Hotel, Peppermint Bay, The Islington Hotel, The Old Woolstore Apartment Hotel, Barilla Bay, Glen Albyn Estate, Royal Tasmanian Botanical Gardens, Frogmore Creek, The Glass House, and many others across the greater Hobart region.

Q5: Do you perform at Hobart churches and cathedrals?
Yes, we have extensive experience performing at Hobart’s historic churches and cathedrals, including St David’s Cathedral, St Mary’s Cathedral, Holy Trinity Greek Orthodox Church, Scots Memorial Uniting Church, and St Joseph’s Catholic Church, among many others. We coordinate the processional, signing of the register, and recessional to match your order of service precisely.

Q6: Do you travel beyond Hobart to regional Tasmania?
Yes, we typically travel up to 3.5 hours by car from Hobart for performances around Tasmania, and our quartet regularly travels to Launceston for wedding ceremonies and funeral services. We can accommodate further distances if required, though our fee will increase to cover the additional travel expenses, which we will confirm upon enquiry.

Q7: Can you perform at outdoor venues across Hobart?
We are pleased to perform outdoors; however, our valuable instruments require protection from direct sunlight, rain, and wind. Appropriate outdoor settings include verandas, balconies, and decks with overhead cover, marquees, large shade umbrellas, or generous trees offering ample shade without the risk of falling foliage. Performing on or near sand is not viable due to potential instrument damage, and an indoor backup space must always be available in case of inclement weather.

Q8: Do you perform at Launceston, Cradle Mountain and East Coast Tasmania weddings?
Yes. We regularly travel to Launceston, the Tamar Valley, Cradle Mountain, Freycinet and Tasmania’s East Coast for weddings and events. A travel fee applies beyond our standard Hobart radius, and we confirm the cost when you submit your enquiry. For mainland events, see our Melbourne and Sydney pages.

Repertoire and Performance

Q9: What types of events do you perform at in Hobart?
Our live music service is tailored to suit a wide variety of occasions, encompassing corporate events such as art gallery openings, product launches, and award ceremonies, as well as private gatherings including wedding ceremonies, birthday and engagement celebrations, and funeral services. Our Hobart string quartet is trusted by some of Australia’s most esteemed corporate organisations to deliver exceptional musical experiences for their notable events.

Q10: Can you perform for low-light or intimate settings?
Yes. Since our musicians read their music on iPads, we can perform comfortably in dark and low-light settings without any special lighting required, making us ideal for Hobart’s popular candlelit dining events, intimate waterfront venues, and evening garden ceremonies. For smaller and more intimate gatherings, we recommend an acoustic performance, and we are happy to advise on the best setup for your specific venue and guest numbers.

Booking and Logistics

Q11: How far in advance should I book?
Many clients book up to two years in advance to secure their preferred date, particularly for weddings, though most finalise their booking two to three months out once all event details are confirmed. As full-time and casual musicians of the Tasmanian Symphony Orchestra, we often have available musicians on rostered-off days, making short-notice bookings for proposals, funerals, and wakes very much possible. Simply complete our booking form as soon as possible and we will respond within 8 hours.

Q12: What are the payment and cancellation terms?
A non-refundable $500 deposit secures your booking, with the remaining balance due at least 30 days before your event. All prices on our website include GST and travel from Hobart, with no additional or hidden fees. Should you need to cancel, a full credit valid for 365 days is issued with at least 30 days’ notice, and if government-imposed restrictions make your event unviable, a full credit is extended provided we are notified at least 48 hours in advance. We also maintain comprehensive public liability insurance of up to $20 million AUD across Australia.

Q13: Will I have a dedicated point of contact for my event?
Yes. Upon reaching out, one of our professional musicians will serve as your dedicated point of contact all the way through to your event date, reducing the risk of miscommunication and ensuring every detail is handled with care. We respond to emails and missed calls within 24 hours and are accessible seven days a week. Unlimited assistance via email and phone is provided at no charge, and in-person consultations are available at $200 + GST per hour.
